Two high school students from Papua had the privilege of participating in Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day celebrations as members of the Pasukan Pengibar Bendera Pusaka (Paskibraka) at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, led by President Prabowo Subianto. Franciscus Sakfiris Pahabolisage from Papua Pegunungan Province and Stincek Laramiapa from Papua Tengah Province were selected to represent their provinces in this prestigious event. Both students expressed their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the flag-raising troop.
Recalling the rigorous selection process, Franciscus shared his experience of going through district, provincial, and national level tests to earn his spot in the Paskibraka team. He admitted that the physical training was a challenge for him, as he had never been used to regular exercise like running and push-ups before. Despite the difficulties, Franciscus felt grateful for the chance to be part of such a significant event.
Similarly, Stincek emphasized her commitment to giving her best performance during the Independence Day ceremony. She expressed her determination to raise the national flag with pride and make the country proud. Stincek admitted her initial doubts about reaching the national level, but now feels honored to represent her province and meet fellow participants from all 38 provinces during training.
Both students highlighted the importance of teamwork and camaraderie in the Paskibraka troop. Stincek emphasized the need to support each other and stay united as a team to ensure a successful flag-raising ceremony. While nerves were present, the prevailing emotions were excitement and joy as they prepared to meet President Prabowo Subianto in person on August 17. Their dedication and hard work have led them to this moment of pride and accomplishment.
