The atmosphere was solemn as the flag-lowering ceremony unfolded at the commemoration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day at Merdeka Palace on Sunday (Aug. 17). For Titi Nurdianti, a Jakarta resident originally from Cilacap, Central Java, the moment brought a mix of pride and deep emotion.
Titi shared that her journey to attend the historic ceremony was challenging, having to compete online for an official ticket. “It was overwhelming and very moving because this was my first time. I had to battle for a ticket with other Indonesians online, racing to click as fast as possible. Finally securing one for the flag-lowering ceremony filled me with pure joy, overwhelming and emotional,” she recounted with excitement at Merdeka Palace.
Having only seen the sacred ritual on TV before, Titi was thrilled to witness it in person on August 17, 2025. To mark the occasion, she donned traditional attire from West Nusa Tenggara in a vibrant shade of red. “This attire is from NTB (West Nusa Tenggara). I don’t often have the opportunity to learn about NTB, so I decided to wear their traditional outfit today,” she said smiling.
A standout memory for Titi was the flag-lowering ceremony followed by a procession towards the National Monument. The lively parade enhanced the grandeur of this year’s Independence Day celebration.
Through tears and smiles, Titi shared her prayers and hopes for the nation’s future. “On this 80th anniversary, may Indonesia continue to progress, and may its people thrive in prosperity, justice, and peace. I am optimistic. I pray for President Prabowo’s health so he can lead with strength and bring welfare to the people, making Indonesia even stronger,” she expressed confidently.
